| The Austrian resort of Schladming won an election Thursday to host the 2013 World Ski Championships, beating out the twin resorts of Vail-Beaver Creek in the United States. Schladming, which hosted the event in 1982, was chosen by FIS, the sport's governing body, at its annual congress. The Austrian bid received 10 of the 16 votes. |

| Hannu Manninen of Finland retired Thursday after a career in which he won 45 individual races, more than any other Nordic combined skier.
